All the UPS and IT equipments are the same, when temperature goes up, the equipments go down. What's even more frightening is that some older UPS is not equipped with overheating alarm. When the temperature sensor on the inverter or rectifier reaches the alarm threshold, it will shut down. Therefore, the refrigeration of data center cannot be ignored. So what should you pay attention to?

  1. The whole cooling capacity of the Online UPS power supply in data center.

The calculation of the whole cooling capacity is basically the same as that of the IT equipment room, like the heat dissipation of the equipment in the UPS data center, lighting load, ventilation load, structural heat load, ir pan. Among them, the heat dissipation of UPS equipment should be considered according to the specific conditions of different equipments.

  1. Air Inlet and Outlet Positions of Online UPS power system

For the Online UPS power system, the air inlet position is in the middle of the front panel while the air outlet is from the top. Therefore, the use of precision air conditioner for upper and lower outlet is not that satisfying (of course, VRV air conditioners are also used). That's what should be taken into consideration in the early layout. If the air conditioner is placed closely to the Online UPS system, the air inlet of the system's middle part will be affected to some extent.

  1. The placement of air conditioning equipment.

Generally, Online UPS center is not as neat as IT equipment room, since there are more types of equipments in different sizes in the UPS center. Therefore, while installing the air conditioner, make sure to keep the air outlet or the return air outlet faced to the passage ways. Avoid direct blow to the power distribution cabinet, otherwise, the power distribution cabinet gets condensed easily in high humidity.

For a running data center, it’s terrible to encounter cooling failure. When cooling system fails, the temperature would reach the limit in a very short time, which inevitably leads to serious consequences such as high-temperature alarms and shutdowns of the server.

The length of the temperature rise time and the scope of influence are related to the total IT load of the data center. It is recommended that the data center room perform a load limit temperature rise test before the completion and acceptance, and test the cooling system according to the full load of the data center room, so as to understand the temperature rise time of the data center under the condition of cooling failure and the time needed to return to normal working temperature after the cooling system is restored. Through temperature rise test, we aim to standardize the operation and maintenance management process and requirements of the data center and make the time standard for temperature rise processing.

The test process is as follows:

  1. According to the design capacity of a single cabinet, install a dummy load and fully load it;
  2. Turn on the refrigeration system and keep the temperature of the cooling passage ways in the data center controlled within the set value (18℃~27℃);
  3. Turn off the refrigeration system, stopwatch for timing, and continuously record (record once a minute or half a minute) the temperature rise of the cooling passage ways;
  4. When the temperature of the cooling passage ways reaches the set limit, record the temperature rise time, turn on the refrigeration system, and continuously record (record once a minute or half a minute) the temperature drop of the cooling passage ways;
  5. When the temperature of the cooling passage ways returns to the set value (18℃~27℃) again, record the temperature drop time and end the test.
